Although the Systems Alliance was initially limited by stipulations included within the Treaty of Farixen, Humanities acceptance as a Council race and victory at the Citadel has resulted in the Alliance being allowed the same number of Dreadnoughts as the Turian Hierarchy. During the Relay 314 Incident, the Alliance would prove itself a capable naval power after a decisive victory at Shanxi.

The Navy of the Systems Alliance was first created in the early 2150's as Humanity began to expand into the Skyllian Verge despite not having come into contact with extraterrestrial life. The designation SSV, or Systems Alliance Space Vehicle, denotes a vessel under the command of the Alliance Navy which can range from heavy warships to light logistical ships used for carrying supplies. The naming of civilian vessels is entirely up to the individual in possession of the ship. These ships are often referred to as just their name, with the MV designation being dropped. Anything from cargo freighters to cruise liners can be classified under this designation, and is standard for all ships not under the control of an official military. The designation MV, or Merchant Vessel, denotes any ship owned and operated by a non-government individual or organization.
